The Master of Fine Arts in Architecture is a by-research M.A. that supports your advanced work and ideas in architecture. It encourages you to work independently and over a broad range of art and design disciplines to challenge how architecture is practiced in the real world. It calls upon you to come up with a unique proposal of your choosing under the tutelage of experts in the Faculty for the Built Environment. With such a vast array of options, you can decide to focus on schematic de-sign and space planning, light and colour perception, theory, modelling, or even materials. A dissertation will ask you to write cogently and in detail about the subject.

This programme offers project-based research where studio-based or practice-based portfolios can be an appropriate medium of research. The research programme is envisaged to include theoretical, studio-based or practice-based research, the presentation of seminars, and a written dissertation of not less than 15, 000 words. In the seminar, you are expected to demonstrate the ability to use available information and literature in the relative field of study, to review relevant literature and demonstrate adequate communication skills. During the programme you shall develop a sound and systematic understanding of the subject of research and show critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights relating to the selected field of study.

The course shall be offered in areas of study in Built Environment where the Faculty can offer expert guidance and supervision. Applicants interested in pursuing a Master of Fine Arts by Research are to consult with staff members before submitting their application and research proposal.
